Mathematics instruction is aligned to the Iowa Core standards and revolves around various strands of instruction:
- Grades K-5: counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations, measurement and data, and geometry
- Grades 6-8: ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability
- Grades 9-12: number and quantity, algebra, functions, modeling, geometry, and statistcs and probability
Teachers also focus on the Standards of Mathematical Practice throughout instruction. All standards within the grade level are taught to each student; however, the math curriculum team has chosen priority standards that will be focused on and assessed more often to ensure readiness for the next grade level or course, college or career, and state level assessments.
Math Mission Statement
Math students in the Oskaloosa CSD will become problem solvers in an evolving society by thinking critically, reasoning logically, and communicating mathematical processes effectively.
Teachers in grades K-5 use McGraw Hill's EveryDay Math 4 materials as the base of the curriculum. Other resources may be supplemented to ensure mastery of the standards.
Teacher in grade 6 use various different materials throughout several multiple self-paced modules.
Teachers in grades 7 and 8 use Pearson's Envision Math. Other resources may be supplemented to ensure mastery of the standards.
Teachers in grades 9-12 use various different texts and online resources depending on the course of study.
