Dear Oskaloosa Middle School Parents and Guardians,
You may have heard some BUZZ about ‘OSKY PRIDE’ AND PBIS!
Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) is a program supported by Oskaloosa Middle School to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is a school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning. At OMS, we focus on the pillars of being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE.
As part of the PBIS program, we have established several clear expectations for the desired behaviors in all areas of our school. We will explicitly teach those expectations to the students and reward them frequently with affirmations, “Caught Ya” tickets, incentives, and prizes for their great behavior from the PBIS Store. The expectations for all student behavior will be clear throughout the classroom, commons, restroom, and hallway. You will be able to ask your student, “What are the expectations in your school?” “How do you follow those expectations?” “What happens when a teacher sees you following the rules/expectations?
These expectations will specifically address building-wide expectations, provide for a safe school environment and maximize time for instruction. We will apply consistent consequences and positive reinforcement for ALL students. By detailing every expected behavior and teaching to students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone in our building, including students, teachers, and all support staff.
We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can learn, succeed and grow.
We always welcome your input and your involvement in our building, believing parents serve in large part as partners in helping us create a positive school and community climate and culture. Please contact us at school if you have any questions or need further information. Thank you for your support!
Yours In Education,
